Varithena

Varithena® (polidocanol injectable foam) is a prescription medicine used to treat varicose veins caused by problems with the great saphenous vein (GSV) and other related veins in the leg’s GSV system. Varithena® improves symptoms related to or caused by varicose veins, and the appearance of varicose veins.

This is a relatively new FDA approved chemical ablation treatment for refluxing veins. It is an outpatient procedure that utilizes injectable foam to effectively dissolve the diseased vein.  It is virtually pain free because it does not require anesthesia to be administered along the length of the affected vein to be treated, and requires a mere 1cc of local anesthetic.

This is an optimal treatment for who have tortuous veins that are not candidates for other types of treatment. There is no downtime associated with the Varithena treatment.   Patients can ambulate immediately post procedure and require compression hose for only 3 days.
